The Galangal

This root-bulb is from the  Rhizome family!

It looks quite similar to the Ginger, but it is Not!

Ginger is yellow to pale brownish in colour, depending on it being young or old.         Galangal is lightly reddish on surface of the bulbs.  Galangal skins are much tougher compared to the ginger, and does not bruised as easily as the latter.  Both bulbs impart a different fragrance and flavour to food  being cooked with it.

To See the Galangal bulb and how it is being used in one of the nemerous ways of cooking it, please view it on one of my up-loads on…..  http://www.youtube.com/cookingwithnancy/ for video entitled,  “White Coconut Curry with Tempeh Part I.
Please notice the Galangal plant displayed  on my demo table in my video.

I really hope you have learnt about the difference of this two Rhizome bulbs.

Present Fruit shop price of Galangal: $9.99 cents per kilo….(13 05 11).
Many years ago, I had seen them regularly priced at $16.00 per kilo.
